As the nights draw in and there’s more than a slight chill in the air, wool becomes the fibre of choice for your wardrobe and home. The A/W 2012 catwalks abounded with knitted garments – no surprise there. But this time the re-invented chunky knit took centre stage.  Homeware shops and interior designers followed suit. The result that we are now spoilt for choice when it comes to buying a chunky knit accessory for our home.  High street staples such as The White Company, French Connection Home and John Lewis have some beautiful cushions and throws that will provide a luxurious and tactile dimension to any scheme. And while a chunky knit sweater may not flatter everyone, a chunky knit cushion will be a winner in pretty much any setting.

Designers such as Christien Meindertsma have taken the chunky knit accessory one step further with his knitted ‘urchin poufs’ in a variety of autumnal shades (available from t.e. : ). And Habitat has adopted the idea with some more accessibly priced options. But the stand-out idea for us has to be Claire-Ann O’Brien’s knitted stools.

We first spotted these earlier in the summer but they seem so right for this time of year.

Quirky, sculptural and completely unique, the tapered ash legs owe much to 1950s Scandi style. These stools would set off any dressing table beautifully or make a statement in their own right.
