FAQs
Got questions? You’re not the only one. Here’s everything people usually ask – before, during, or after working with me.
Online Consultations
Of course. Some clients book one session; others return for second opinions, follow-up styling help, or as new decisions arise. We offer flexible top-ups to suit your timeline.
If you’ve booked a 2- or 3-hour session, we can usually cover more than one issue—but let us know ahead of time. Trying to squeeze too much in can dilute the value, so we’ll help you prioritise.
Absolutely. We use Zoom screen-share to walk through anything visual—plans, Pinterest boards, product pages, or even your builder’s drawings.
Yes—and you’re not alone. Our Build Survival Session is ideal for anyone mid-build who’s overwhelmed by choices or stuck between options. We’ll help you move forward with clarity.
Nope. You can sit back and focus—we’ll send you a written summary with key takeaways and action steps.
Yes—our The Outside Room service is a 3-hour virtual consultation for first-time gardeners. It includes planting advice, layout suggestions, and a basic planting plan so you know what to plant where—and why it won’t die on you.
You can either:
– Show it live via your phone or laptop camera on Zoom
– Send us a PDF or folder of images beforehand
– Screen-share plans or product ideas during the call
Virtual consultations are perfect for targeted advice on specific rooms or problems. You’ll carry out the project yourself (or with your contractor). Full service includes in-person site visits, moodboards, detailed drawings, procurement, and project oversight. Think of virtual consults as a design power hour, not a full renovation.
The more you give, the more we can offer. At a minimum:
– Clear photos or a video of your space
– A sense of your style (Pinterest board, saved images, or projects you love)
– Any questions you want answered
Bonus points for floorplans, dimensions, or product links.
No problem. Part of our job is to help you define your style and steer you towards the right choices. You don’t need to be ‘ready’—you just need to show up.
It’s a one-on-one Zoom session designed to give you expert advice, fast. Whether you need help with layout, colour, finishes, lighting, or styling, this is a focused session to help you make confident design decisions. We offer different packages depending on what kind of help you need.
Every consultation includes:
– A pre-call questionnaire so we hit the ground running
– A Zoom session (length depends on the service)
– Clear, actionable advice tailored to your space and style
– A summary of recommendations, sent after the call
Yes. Every consultation includes a written recap with any key recommendations, links, or notes—so you can stay present in the call without needing to scribble everything down.
Bespoke Interiors
Yes.
Bespoke Interior Design is intended for one entire room, or multiple rooms, or whole-home refurbishment projects. If you’re simply choosing a paint colour or a sofa, one of my online consultation services will likely suit you better.
I’d much rather steer you towards the right service than overcomplicate something that doesn’t need it.
Very much so.
Art is rarely an afterthought in my projects. It’s often the emotional anchor of a room. I source contemporary works, explore galleries, and frequently incorporate antiques and one-off pieces to ensure your home feels layered rather than showroom-perfect.
A space becomes meaningful when it tells your story, not when it mirrors a catalogue.
Yes, provided there’s mutual respect and professional standards.
I collaborate regularly with architects and contractors, either ones you’ve appointed or trusted teams I’ve worked with before.
Clear communication and documented drawings go a long way in keeping everyone aligned as well as protecting the outcome of your project.
You’re likely to enjoy working with me if:
You value considered design.
You understand that good outcomes take time.
You’re open to personality in your home.
You’d prefer thoughtful guidance over endless, overwhelming options.
You see your home as somewhere to live fully, not simply something to photograph.
If you’re primarily seeking the lowest-cost route or a quick cosmetic update, I may not be the right designer. And that’s completely fine.
The most successful projects tend to grow from mutual respect, shared expectations, and a genuine sense that we’re working towards the same vision. When that alignment is there, the process feels collaborative rather than complicated.
Over time, trust builds. It becomes the quiet foundation of the project and the professional relationship, allowing decisions to be made with ease rather than second-guessing.
.
That depends entirely on you.
Some clients love reviewing samples and discussing every decision. Others are busy professionals who would rather I present carefully curated options with a clear recommendation.
There is no right way. My job is to lead the process and make it manageable, not overwhelming.
Good design requires thinking time.
Concept Design Development typically takes several weeks, followed by Detailed Design Development before any construction begins. Build timelines depend entirely on the scale of renovation.
If you have a fixed deadline, tell me early. We can then assess what is realistically achievable without compromising quality.
.
This is usually the question people feel slightly awkward asking.
The honest answer is that it varies significantly depending on the scope, the level of renovation, and the quality of finishes you’re aiming for.
What I can say is this:
Most of my clients are undertaking meaningful change. They’re redesigning kitchens, reconfiguring layouts, investing in joinery, lighting, furniture and art. They want it done properly and they want it to last.
During our early conversations, we talk openly about budget ranges. I’ll guide you on where investment matters and where we can simplify. My role is not to inflate costs, but to help you avoid expensive missteps.
This is such a common tension.
Colour, when handled without thought, can feel overwhelming. When handled with care, it brings warmth, depth and energy to a space.
Nothing is ever chosen in isolation. I look at tone, texture and balance as a whole. A bold wallpaper might sit alongside quieter upholstery. A strong artwork might be grounded with antique timber or softened with natural materials. It’s about composition rather than statement-making for its own sake.
The aim is always harmony within your home, not unnecessary theatrics.
And gently put, I tend to see far more regret from playing things too safe than from embracing something that has been properly considered.
This is where there’s often confusion.
Interior design is not just selecting fabrics and cushions. It involves spatial planning, joinery design, lighting strategy, sourcing, technical drawings, procurement, contractor coordination and final installation.
I often describe my role as protecting the integrity of the vision from start to finish. From how the room functions to how it feels at 9pm with the lamps on.
It’s both practical and intuitive.
Renovation is a human process. Surprises can happen.
When they do, we assess the issue, explore options, and agree on a sensible solution. Because when the design has been properly thought through from the outset, we’re rarely scrambling to make reactive decisions.
Experience is not about preventing every issue. It’s about managing them calmly when they arise.
“I’m not sure what I like, but I know what I don’t like.” Almost everyone says this at the beginning.
What they usually mean is that they haven’t yet translated their preferences into something cohesive.
Part of my role is interpretation. We talk about how you want the space to feel. How you need it to function. What you’re drawn to instinctively. What you’re tired of. What you’d regret not exploring.
Your style becomes clear through conversation and thoughtful design, not guesswork.
We begin with a complimentary Zoom Meet & Greet.
This is a relaxed but purposeful conversation where we talk about your home, what isn’t working, what you’re hoping to change, and what this next chapter of your house needs to become.
If it feels like a good fit on both sides, the next step is an in-home Design Strategy & Scope of Work Briefing. That session allows me to properly assess the space, understand the practical constraints, and shape a proposal that is tailored to you rather than generic.
No pressure. Just a sensible starting point.
I’m based in Sanderstead, South Croydon, and work across Croydon, South London and Surrey.
I regularly design homes in Dulwich, Beckenham, Bromley, Wimbledon, Wandsworth, Balham and Putney, as well as Banstead, Kingswood, Reigate, Redhill, Oxted and Westerham.
Many of my clients are families moving within South London or relocating further south into Surrey for more space, wanting a home that feels considered, layered and entirely their own.
If you’re unsure whether your location falls within my usual reach, do get in touch. For the right project, I’m always open to a conversation.
.
You absolutely can.
Some homeowners do, and then find themselves surprised by the sheer volume of decisions required and the speed at which those decisions need to be made. Once construction is underway, questions come thick and fast. Tile layouts. Tap positions. Socket heights. Lighting types. It can feel relentless.
The real challenge arises when building work begins before the design thinking has been fully resolved. The smoothest projects are those where the design has been given proper attention upfront. Overall layout, lighting strategy, joinery proportions, sightlines, furniture scale, artwork placement. These elements need careful consideration before electrics and plumbing are fixed into place.
Builders are highly skilled at construction. But they are not responsible for the aesthetic direction of your home. Without a clear design framework, it’s very easy to default to over-specification or the all-too-common “runway grid” of ceiling spotlights simply because no alternative has been properly planned.
When the design is considered early, the build tends to flow more calmly. Fewer reactive decisions. Fewer compromises. And far less risk of expensive adjustments later.
Thoughtful design at the beginning is rarely a cost. More often, it is what protects your investment.
